“Wee Journey is not childcare; it
is ministry to preschoolers.”
- Ani Salisbury, Preschool Director
“Parents as Spiritual
Leaders” is the main thrust of our ministry.
Our job is to come alongside parents and help them, but
not usurp the spiritual authority they should have in their
families. We provide tools, like our Discipleship Books,
to encourage parents to be key participants in their children’s
spiritual upbringing.
Importance of Age Breakdown
We can ensure that the activities and environment are age-appropriate.
There is a huge difference between the abilities of a 2 year
old and a 5 year old, so here’s how we break it down:
-
Nursery (1 mo. to 14 mo.)
-
Toddlers (14 mo. to 2 yrs.)
-
2 year olds
-
3 year olds
-
4 year olds
-
Children attending Kindergarten in the current school year
Promotion to the next class is based on the school year
graduation in June. This helps the children transition to
the next age level with their friends and accomplishes the
goal of continuity and stability for the children.

A Look at our Program
The most important thing preschoolers will learn & experience
at SCBC: God loves them.
Chapel Time
includes Interactive Worship, Memorizing
Key Verse, and fun and relevant Puppet
Shows.
Class Time
includes Story
Time, Crafts, and Games,
built upon our original curriculum.
Original Curriculum
encourages family (especially parental) involvement in the spiritual
upbringing of children. In our 52-week curriculum, each
lesson is based upon a key story from the
Bible. We start with Genesis (the beginning) in June, and
work our way through both the Old and New Testaments. By
Christmas, we begin to learn about the life of Jesus, and
after Easter we follow the stories of the disciples as they
build the Church
Discipleship Books
are small storybooks (of that week's key story) that tell the Bible
story in simple language. On the back page, we include some
thoughts and exercises for parents to think through with
their preschooler, encouraging parent-child interaction.
Parents Night Out (PNO)
is a fabulous service for folks who
serve on a regular basis in Children's ministry. We provide
free childcare on Friday nights, to encourage parents to
build their marriages or simply be refreshed with alone
time.
