Pre-Teens Ministry

Our mission is

"Attract
           Accept
                     Connect
                                 & Grow

5th & 6th graders by the power of God to impact their world and beyond."

Top 5 reasons kids want to come to Waveriders:

  1. Awesome games, climbing wall, foosball, air hockey…
  2. Building relationships with caring leaders and fellow students
  3. Learning about God in creative & fun ways
  4. Freedom to ask questions and express their understanding & ideas
  5. Worshiping God in song & prayer

Attract:

We create a fun, casual and exciting environment that is appealing to kids. It’s easy for our students to invite their friends to Waveriders, because there’s simply so much fun stuff to do!

Our classrooms are great hangouts, comfy with couches & music, invigorating with foosball, air hockey, wall climbing and friendly faces.

Every other week, we have yummy treats, alternating donuts, mochas, or root beer floats. When the weather’s good (which it often is since we live in Santa Cruz), we take Park Days (even during church) and have special events, like Water Camp, sleepovers, 6th graders’ snow trip, and Beach parties.

If these things seem superficial, think again. They work into the Waveriders mission, where we want to ATTRACT 5th & 6th graders, so they will want to come to church and hear about God’s Love!

Accept:

matter what phase a kid is going through, we want them to know that they are accepted at Waveriders. God’s love reaches out to everyone, and we do too!

Our one rule is RESPECT – for themselves, each other and the leaders. So we teach Waveriders to accept each other too! Teasing, insulting or excluding friends is utterly not allowed. The result: our environment is caring and safe.

Connect:

To succeed in the upcoming teen years (and ultimately life!), it is crucial for our students to have a support system of positive peers. We teach our Waveriders to build friendships, both at school and church. It is also important that Waveriders connect with their leaders, and form healthy role models and find adults that relate to them, and can show them to live for God!

Grow:

We all need to grow! Whatever their level of spiritual maturity, each Waverider is challenged to grow. We encourage them to put their trust in Jesus Christ, and enter into a relationship with Him if they haven’t already. More mature believers are challenged to get serious about living out their faith.
