WHAT IS A MISSIONAL COMMUNITY?
A Missional Community (MC) is much more than a weekly event. MCs gather together at different times throughout the week to fulfill Jesus’ mission of being disciples who make disciples. Together we learn how to worship and follow Jesus in all of life by learning how to love one another as family, worship Jesus as servants who serve others, and share the good news of Jesus Christ as his sent missionaries.
Every missional community identifies a group of people whom they believe God is sending them to love, serve, and share Jesus with. It could be a neighborhood or network of relationships. Some choose to love and serve local schools, while others will identify people they already are in regular relationship with. We want to see every aspect of our city blessed by God’s people: business, arts, education, sports, recreation, and social services.
HOW DO I FIND A MISSIONAL COMMUNITY?
There are two pathways to joining a Missional Community. The first is our Rooted Experience. Rooted is a 10 week discipleship experience that takes place in a small group. Many of these Rooted Groups go on together as a Missional Community. To join an already existing Missional Community, visit the Starting Point Room on Sunday or check out our list of groups below. Feel free to pop into one closest to you or contact a MC or Growth Group leader by clicking on the groups below.
As meeting locations may change some weeks (particularly in summer months), we recommend contacting the Missional Community leader to verify the meeting location for your first week. If you’re feeling called to lead a group or to open up your home to host a group for a leader, please email Scott Newman
Some of our small groups are called Growth Groups. These are groups that have been around for a number of years but the goal is very much the same as our MC’s: enjoy community and grow together as disciples of Jesus. If you’re interested, these are great groups to get plugged in with and gain a sense of belonging at SCBC.
