About Jim Taylor

Jim has been on staff at SCBC since 1994, serving first in the facilities department while volunteering to begin a Christ-based recovery program at SCBC. It became clear to Jim and to others on staff that he had the gifts, experience and calling to begin such a program. A recovering codependent and chemically dependent person himself, he was and is passionate about helping others begin to heal from their “hurts, habits and hang-ups”.
He enrolled in Bethany College where he successfully completed their Certification Program in Addiction Counseling in April 1999 and has held the staff position of Director of Santa Cruz Celebrate Recovery since April 2000.
He and his wife of Diane were married in Anchorage Alaska on March 19, 1971, have lived in Santa Cruz since August 3, 1983 and have co-led this life changing ministry since September 1996. They have one adult son, Matt and three grandchildren, Jeremy, Sion, and Brody.
Celebrate Recovery is growing rapidly regionally, nationally and even internationally. Jim served as the West Coast Regional Director from 2002 through 2006 and had the opportunity to speak at conferences and network with Recovery pastors and lay leaders in many states.
Jim’s hobbies are lifting weights, enjoying regular workouts and eating as healthy as he possibly can.
Jim is continually amazed at the miraculous work God has done in so many lives through recovery, including his own. Did he imagine that God would work in and through him at this magnitude? Probably not. He is very humble and stands in awe as he signs his name “Desperately Dependent on God, Jim Taylor”.
