Over the past months we have been praying together as a church that God would provide a new Lead Pastor for this season ahead. During this process there has been a nation-wide search to find the person that we believe would have the gifting needed to come alongside us as a church to carry out the vision that God has called us to.

We are excited to announce that this week the Elders extended a call to Matt Roden to be our next Lead Pastor and he has accepted! Matt, his wife Carrie and their four children plan to arrive in Santa Cruz at the beginning of February 2021 when Matt begins his new role.

Please join us in welcoming Matt and his family!

With 22 years of ministry experience, I believe God has developed leaders like me for such a time as this. While for some the future means uncertainty, I see opportunity. I have been married to Carrie for 18 years and we have 4 kids: Sophie (16), Will (12), Lillie (10), and Lucie (9).

Raised in a dysfunctional home, I came to church at 15 years old to meet girls. I met Jesus instead. I'm living proof that God can love anyone, redeem anyone and lead anyone to His purposes for their life.

Reaching people far from God is not just a mission, it's a mindset. A church willing to put a hurting world first and model transparency, humility, and the love of Christ to their community will see lives changed.

Spiritual maturity is living with our mission in mind, determining to be like Christ to those who need Him. High-impact churches are the ones who are willing to do what no one else is doing to reach who no one else is reaching.

I met my wife Carrie at church. I was playing drums on stage and she found me irresistible. This is my version of these events. Hers might be different 🙂 Carrie is passionate about ministry to moms, kids from hard places and serving in the community. She would describe me as lucky, and I would agree.

Santa Cruz is a very unique community with very familiar issues. People are searching for hope and truth. What attracted me to Santa Cruz was not the waves, sunsets or mountains (though they are amazing). What attracted me was the fact that less than 6% of the population attends church. We can be an incredible light in this community. I believe God has an amazing future for Santa Cruz Bible Church.

My favorite verse says it all: "But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God." Acts 20:24 (NLT)
